Special Care Nursery
In addition to our Newborn Nursery, Clara Maass Medical Center maintains
a Level II Special Care Nursery for premature newborns born at 32 weeks
or greater, and newborns in need of specialized medical treatment. With
a neonatologist in-house/available 24-hours a day, and our highly skilled
team of neonatal nurses, we provide comprehensive expert medical care
utilizing the latest technology.
We understand that new parents want and need to spend time with their newborns,
especially when they are born with special care needs. Our liberal visitation
policy encourages families to share special time with their newborn, enhancing
the bonding process.
Birthday Suite Services
Preparation for childbirth is central to the philosophy of total care.
A number of classes are held to help educate the new mother and family
about the impending birth. Classes include Prepared Childbirth, Weekend
Childbirth Series, Sibling Class, Breastfeeding, and Baby Shower Infant
Class. All expectant mothers are invited to a Maternity Tea.
A Star is Born
Each year, thousands of families choose to welcome their babies into the
world at Clara Maass Medical Center. We invite you to celebrate the birth
of a special child – either your own or a beloved newborn or child
of a family member or friend – by placing a star bearing the child’s
name and birth date on our “A Star is Born” wall. This wall
is prominently located in the main reception area of the Maternity Center.
Your gift not only marks a joyous occasion, but also benefits a wide range
of programs for newborns and their families. For more information, contact
