As a high-risk pregnancy may pose challenges before, during or after delivery,
it's important to understand what causes a high-risk pregnancy and
what steps you can take to ensure good health for you and your baby.
Factors that might place a pregnancy at high risk include:
- existing health conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney disease,
autoimmune disease and obesity
- first time pregnancy 35 and over (advanced maternal age) and teen pregnancy
- lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking
- multiple gestation – pregnancy with twins, triplets and more
At Jersey City Medical Center, we take special care and monitor the mother
and unborn child to minimize complications of high risk pregnancies.
