About OB Gyn Simulation Center at Saint Barnabas

Experts agree simulation training is beneficial and is increasingly preferable to didactic education. To improve maternal/child outcomes, The Regional Perinatal Simulation Center at Saint Barnabas will focus on enhancing teamwork and communication among interdisciplinary healthcare providers. Similar to the other high reliability industries, such as aviation and nuclear power, the success of healthcare crises rests on the ability of diverse clinical providers working together to provide optimal patient care.

The advantages of simulation training over traditional medical education include:

  • Exposure to rare but complicated and important clinical events
  • Ability to plan training opportunities rather than wait for an emergency situation to arise
  • Ability to provide immediate feedback
  • Opportunity to repeat procedures
  • Opportunity for team training
  • Potential to lower health care costs, both direct and indirect
