Pediatric Specialty Services

Through the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey Pediatric Subspecialty Center at Bayonne, area families have immediate access to the premier specialists of the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey (CHoNJ) at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

Children’s Hospital of New Jersey is the state’s premier hospital dedicated to caring for children and adolescents. Our highly specialized critical care services offer treatment for seriously ill children from newborn to adolescence. As a teaching institution, CHoNJ at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center delivers a special level of care to its patients, attracting the state’s top physicians committed to academic and medical excellence.

The hospital’s comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pediatric services include a Children’s Heart Center with the state’s only pediatric cardiac surgery program, state-designated regional perinatal center, the state’s largest pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric emergency department, Valerie Fund Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, a 69 bed, neonatal ICU with New Jersey’s only ECMO unit, HIV/AIDS treatment for children as well as a sexual and child abuse program.

Pediatric Cardiology:
The Children’s Heart Center at Children’s Hospital of New Jersey is the state’s largest and most comprehensive center for diagnosis and treatment of children with heart problems, adults with congenital heart disease, and for expectant mothers whose fetus may have a heart problem.

Led by Division Director Rajiv Verma, M.D., 2012 New Jersey Hospital Association Healthcare Professional of the Year, the Division provides the most sophisticated diagnostic capabilities, dedicated pediatric surgical and catheterization facilities. In conjunction with New York University, CHoNJ offers the State’s only pediatric cardiothoracic program, should intervention become necessary.

From fetal echocardiography to life-long care for adults with congenital heart disease, families turn to our experienced team of cardiac specialists for the finest care close to home.

Our skilled team has performed thousands of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on patients from newborns to adults, while using the latest minimally invasive approaches whenever clinically appropriate.

Appointments: 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month - 9am-1pm.

Pediatric Hematology/Oncology:
The Valerie Fund Center at CHoNJ, part of the largest consortium of centers treating children with blood disorders and cancers in the United States, provide the latest advances and most compassionate medical care in a soothing environment.

This center provides comprehensive medical and psychosocial care to children with cancer and blood disorders. Physicians board-certified in pediatric hematology and oncology are available 24-hours a day, and the staff includes oncology nurses, a pediatric nurse practitioner, a sickle cell nurse coordinator, two social workers,

and a child life specialist. The Valerie Fund at CHoNJ is home to one of nine state-designated sickle cell programs and treats more sickle cell patients than any hospital in the state.

Pediatric Immunology/Allergy:
Diagnosis and treatment provided for children from birth through 21 years of age with allergies, recurrent or unusual infections, or suspected immunologic deficiency. All forms of allergy are addressed from allergic rhinitis, food allergies, asthma and eczema to insect sting allergies, hives and drug allergies.

Appointments: Friday appointments (once a month).

Pediatric Gastroenterology:
The Division of Gastroenterology offers complete diagnostic testing, consultation, treatment and follow-up for gastrointestinal and nutritional disorders for newborns and children through 18 years of age. Physicians who are board certified in pediatrics and pediatric gastroenterology diagnose and treat disorders including inflammatory bowel disease, chronic abdominal pain, feeding problems, acute and chronic liver disease, chronic constipation, and diarrhea. We are one of the few facilities in New Jersey to provide pre- and post-liver transplant care.

Appointments: 3rd Friday of each month.
