Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus (MMCSC) offers a full scope of
advanced diagnostic and interventional services to both diagnose and treat
diseases, trauma and medical conditions.
About the Radiology Department
The Radiology Department at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus is
accredited by the
American College of Radiology and includes board-certified and fellowship-trained
radiologists, licensed and certified medical imaging technologists, and registered
interventional radiology nurses. Our team works together to provide the
best possible services to the members of the communities we serve.
Using state-of-the-art image archiving and communications systems, our
radiologists and imaging team are committed to delivering high quality
diagnostic information in a timely and efficient manner to assist your
physician in addressing your medical needs.
Radiology Services include:
Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)- Our high speed CT scanners provide superior diagnostic information for
a broad range of medical conditions. Increased frame and transfer rates
decrease a patient’s time on the table to only minutes and CT technology
offers high quality images with the lowest possible radiation doses.
DEXA – DEXA Scans are the gold standard to measure a patient’s
bone mineral density. Our DEXA machine features the latest in technological
development, which helps assess osteopenia, osteoporosis and risk of fracture.
A DEXA scan will accurately measure a patient’s bone loss by using
a low dose of X-ray and they are primarily performed on the spine and hip.
Diagnostic Ultrasound- Our diagnostic ultrasound service produces high quality images of body
structures including tendons, muscles, joints, vessels and internal organs.
Our professional staff has been trained to use high frequency sound waves,
rather than x-rays, to provide diagnostic information.
Interventional Radiology- Interventional Radiology procedures involve the treatment of the patient,
as well as the diagnosis of disease. The exams treat an ever-widening
range of conditions inside the body from outside the body by inserting
various small instruments or tools, such as catheters or wires, with the
use of various x-ray and imaging techniques (i.e., CT scanners, fluoroscopy
and ultrasound scanners). Interventional Radiology offers an alternative
to the surgical treatment of many conditions and may eliminate the need
for hospitalization. Some of the exams we offer in Interventional Radiology
include Angiography, Arteriovenous Malformations (AVM), Balloon Angioplasty,
Biliary Drainage and Stenting, Central Venous Access, Embolization, Chemoembolization,
Infection and Abscess Drainage, Needle Biopsy, Radiofrequency Ablation
and myriad of other procedures.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) - Our state-of-the-art MRI scanner uses a magnetic field and computerized
imaging software to obtain detailed pictures of internal organs, tissues
and bones through the entire body.
Nuclear Medicine- Our nuclear medicine staff uses small amounts of radioactive material (radio-pharmaceuticals)
to scan and diagnose medical conditions. The radio pharmaceuticals are
detected by highly sensitive cameras that work with computers to provide
precise pictures of internal body structures. Nuclear medicine studies
are safe, painless, and highly effective in providing diagnostic information.
Positron Emission Tomography/Computerize Tomography (PET/CT Scan)- PET/CT Scans are safe, non-invasive procedures that provide diagnostic
information not available from other imaging modalities. Our PET/CT scanner
combines the advanced imaging capability of a CT scanner to provide detailed
images of internal organs and, through positron emission technology, simultaneously
offers detailed information about metabolic function. When your physician
chooses Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus’ PET/CT scanner,
we can provide the diagnostic information needed to differentiate benign
and malignant lesions, determine the optimal location to perform invasive
procedures, pinpoint cancer cells to safeguard surrounding healthy cells
during radiation treatment, and provide the information your doctor needs
to monitor your plan of care.
