Once you have an ITB pump placed, it's important to make regular return visits to your doctor or clinic to ensure appropriate ongoing therapy. The dose of medication delivered into your spine may need to be adjusted based on your symptoms and response to treatment.
The pump will need to be refilled regularly on schedule - your pump should not be allowed to run out of medication, as this can result in a series in serious medical problems. There are other potential complications from this therapy: Surgical complications can include infection, spinal fluid leak, and headache.
Once the infusion system is implanted, device complications can include accidental medication overdose and blocked or dislodged catheter. Your doctor will educate you about symptoms to watch out for that could indicate one of these complications, and our team will be available to help you should this occur.
