Carmin Patient Story: Carmin's Story

"The entire experience was amazing... Before Gamma Knife, I could not hold a glass and I needed to use two hands to sign my own name"

Before Gamma Knife, I could not hold a glass and I needed to use two hands to sign my own name…

It’s the small, yet important things like this that you struggle with every day when you are suffering with essential tremors like I was. As a small business owner, when my tremors began to affect my everyday life and my livelihood, I knew it was time for help.

My research on treatment options quickly led me to Monmouth Medical Center and I am so glad it did!

Drs. Ty Olson and Sang Sim are leading the way in the treatment of essential tremors using Gamma Knife, a noninvasive radiosurgery option that delivers a high dose of radiation to a specific point within the brain. From the first time I met them, I knew they were the right physicians for me. I immediately felt comfortable with their knowledge and clinical expertise.

I started with Gamma Knife treatment for essential tremors on my right side about two and a half years ago. I spent about 4 hours at Monmouth Medical Center for the procedure. I was astounded when 80% of my symptoms had resolved within 6 months with absolutely no side effects. I could write, dial a telephone, hold a glass, and even eat soup.

The entire experience was amazing. I am so pleased with my progress that I am planning to undergo the procedure again for an essential tremor on my left side.

Thanks to Drs. Olson and Sim and the rest of the staff at Monmouth Medical Center, I do not have to live with tremors.
