Dr. Aitchison, board certified in surgery, specializes in renal and pancreas
transplantation. She is part of Associates in Transplant and General Surgery
along with Stuart R. Geffner, MD, Director of Transplant Surgery, and
Harry Sun, MD.
Prior to joining Saint Barnabas, Dr. Aitchison was an attending surgeon
at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Birmingham, AL, while
performing her fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery at the University
of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed a residency in general surgery
at the University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY, and received a medical degree
from the State University of New York at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY. She has
presented her original research at both international and national conventions.
The world-class Barnabas Health Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division,
located at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ, is one of
the world's most progressive transplant programs. With 247 kidney
transplants performed in 2014, it is one of the largest kidney transplant
programs among 240 in the United States – ranking third highest
in living donor transplant volume. The Division is the most active kidney
transplant program in New Jersey and the only program in the state involved
in clinical research trials for patients.
