    A New Jersey native, Dr. Karl Coutinho completed his undergraduate degree in Biology and Economics at New York University and received his medical degree from New Jersey Medical School in 2010. Dr. Coutinho completed his Internship in General Surgery and Residency in Urology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. His military experience compelled him to complete a fellowship in genitourinary trauma and reconstruction at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and University Hospitals in Cleveland. Dr. Coutinho received additional training in genitourinary prosthetics and reconstruction through courses at Perito Urology in Miami, and as a visiting fellow at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute in Pune, India. Dr. Coutinho has served continuously in the military since 2003, as an enlisted infantryman, infantry officer, field surgeon, and now as a flight surgeon. Major Coutinho currently serves as the State Flight Surgeon for the New Jersey Army National Guard. Dr. Coutinho’s areas of expertise include the placement of inflatable penile implants, urethral stricture disease, artificial urinary sphincter placement, advanced treatments of kidney and bladder stones, voiding dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, robotic surgery, prostate cancer, and genitourinary reconstruction.
