    Dr. Geffner has been has been responsible for building the Barnabas Health Renal and Pancreas Transplant Division into one of the largest transplant programs in the United States. His expertise in transplant surgery has led to him to achieve several medical “firsts” in New Jersey, including transplantation of the youngest and smallest child and the first isolated pancreas transplant. In addition, he performed the world’s first robot-assisted living donor kidney transplantation.

    Dr. Geffner received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School and completed a fellowship in transplant surgery at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. In 2015, he also received a master’s degree in health care management from Harvard University’s School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts.

    Dr. Geffner plays an active role in the community and is involved with "Live from Kidney Transplant," a series of live video telecasts of transplant surgery to high school students by Liberty Science Center. He has received the National Medical Award for Excellence in Transplantation by the Kidney and Urology Foundation of America, Inc., and the Herbert A Schulte Award for excellence in surgery. Dr. Geffner is a published author and has made several presentations at both national and international surgical conferences.
