Dr. Matier is a fellowship trained Colon & Rectal Surgeon with board
certifications in Colon & Rectal, as well as General Surgery. Prior
to joining NJ Laparoscopic Associates, Dr. Matier practiced for 4 years
in Buffalo, NY. While in Buffalo, he was appointed to Assistant Professor
of Surgery at the University at Buffalo, and was a core faculty member
for the Colon and Rectal Surgery fellowship program.
In addition to a broad clinical practice in colorectal surgery, Dr. Matier’s
experience includes presentations at national and regional meetings, hospital
grand rounds, and at educational events for training other surgeons. He
has also participated in community outreach events, and been featured
in the newspaper to educate the public about colorectal cancer treatment
and prevention. Dr. Matier completed his surgery residency at Sound Shore
Medical Center of Westchester, and Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. He
then went on to complete his fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery
at the University at Buffalo.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Diplomate of the American
Board of Surgery, and a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal
Surgeons. With a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Matier
employs robotic and laparoscopic approaches to colon and rectal surgeries.
He also performs transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) to remove
large or complex polyps of the rectum which can not be removed endoscopically.
Additionally, Dr. Matier offers sacral nerve stimulation, a minimally invasive
treatment for fecal incontinence. Dr. Matier treats all forms of colon,
rectal and anal diseases including, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel
disease, cancer, polyps, constipation, fecal incontinence, hemorrhoids,
anal fissure, rectal abscess and fistula, warts, and pilonidal disease.
He also performs diagnostic and screening colonoscopy. Many treatments
can even be done on an outpatient basis, or be performed in the office.
