    Dr. Catherine Mazzola is an experienced female pediatric neurosurgeon, certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons and the American Board of Pediatric Neurological Surgery. She completed her Pediatric Neurosurgical Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 and did her neurosurgery residency at New Jersey Medical School, under the supervision of Dr. Peter Carmel, the President of the AMA in 2011-2012. Dr. Mazzola served on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and is an active member of the Executive Committee of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS). She was the Chair of the Medicolegal Committee of CSNS and is now the Chair of the Ethics Committee of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Dr. Mazzola’s special interests include hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury and concussion, pediatric brain tumors and spine tumors, brain cysts, craniofacial surgery, plagiocephaly, torticollis, Chiari malformation, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, spine deformity, epilepsy surgery and the management of movement disorders such as dystonia and spasticity. She treats children for the above specialties at her offices located in Morristown and Hackensack, NJ. Dr. Catherine Mazzola is the founder of the Craniofacial Center at Goryeb Children’s Hospital, the Pediatric Brain and Spine Tumor Center (now called GNOP) and the Spasticity and Gait Disorder Center of Goryeb Children’s Hospital. Dr. Mazzola is involved in mentorship, training and education of pre-medical undergraduates, medical school students, and residents. She has been the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurological Surgery since 2005. Dr. Mazzola serves Morristown Medical Center on the Operating Room Committee, medical Executive Committee and she is a Member-at-Large of the Morris County Medical Society Executive Board. Dr. Catherine Mazzola published several peer reviewed articles, presented at many national neuroscience meetings and has received grants from the Children’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and The New Jersey State Cancer Commission. Dr. Mazzola has published many nationally recognized pediatric guidelines. Dr. Mazzola has been continuously listed in Inside New Jersey “Top Docs” Magazines since 2015, and voted by parents to be a featured pediatric neurosurgeon in the New Jersey Family; essential source for NJ moms ‘The List of NJ’s Favorite Kids’ Docs.’ “We understand the stress involved in caring for a sick child, and we make certain your child receives the necessary therapies and interventions,” says Dr. Mazzola. Dr. Catherine Mazzola has gone on neurosurgical missionary trips to Kenya and is currently planning a mission trip to Cebu, Philippines, for pediatric neurosurgery outreach. As a pediatric neurosurgeon her accomplishments shine through the individualized care she provides all of her patients; “Dr. Mazzola is wonderful and the staff is the best! Care is a big word to describe everyone in this practice.” Dr. Mazzola grew up in Queens, NY and currently lives with her husband and five children in northern New Jersey.

    Philosophy:

    Dr. Mazzola is a BOARD certified Pediatric and Adult Neurosurgeon who provides compassionate and individualized care to every patient. She is one of the few FEMALE neurosurgeons in the US. Dr. Mazzola was selected to be on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurosurgery. She has authored several neurosurgical articles and is very involved in community outreach.
