    Dr. Najam Wasty has been practicing invasive/interventional cardiology for over thirty five years and is currently is the Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and the Director of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Training Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.

    He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at Rutgers-NJ Medical School and is a pioneer in the field of complex coronary stenting with and without the use of the Impella device.

    Over twenty years ago, Dr. Wasty successfully performed several of the first left main coronary artery stent procedures in the state of New Jersey for patients who had been turned down for open heart surgery due to a prohibitive surgical risk.

    Dr. Wasty has done original work on alternate access for Impella support for such procedures when the conventional leg approach is not a feasible option.

    He led the team at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center that was the first on the entire Eastern seaboard of the United States to perform and report an Impella insertion from the upper arm (Axillary Artery approach) in 2014.

    Dr. Wasty has authored multiple original scientific papers, many of them of a seminal nature.

    Dr. Wasty completed his internal medicine residency at NY Medical College /Lincoln Hospital Campus, Bronx in 1983 and his cardiology fellowship at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center/University of Medicine and Dentistry in 1985.

    He is triple board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases and interventional cardiology and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions (SCAI).

    Dr. Wasty’s special areas of interest are:

    Complex coronary stenting with Impella support especially in patients who have been turned down for open heart surgery, carotid, subclavian and renal artery stenting, stenting and balloon angioplasty for severe peripheral artery disease causing disabling leg pain and threatened limb loss especially to avert leg amputation.

    Dr. Wasty can be reached at 973-926-8592 at his private office located at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where he also performs minimally invasive heart procedures. He participates in most major insurances and generally accepts their reimbursement as payment in full.
