Becker’s Hospital Review Selects Clara Maass Medical Center in Nationwide List “100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs”

Belleville, NJ – Clara Maass Medical Center has been chosen by Becker’s Hospital Review – a national publication focused on the business and legal issues of health systems – in its selection of “100 Hospitals With Great Heart Programs.”

The national list was made public on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

Becker’s Hospital Review released this statement about the 100 national winners, including Clara Maass Medical Center:

“These hospitals offer outstanding heart care, and the Becker's Hospital Review editorial team selected them based on clinical accolades, recognition for quality care and contributions to the field of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. These hospitals have been set apart for excellence in heart care and research by reputable healthcare rating resources, including U.S. News & World Report, HealthGrades, Thomson Reuters and the American Nurses Credentialing Center..”

“We have an outstanding Cardiology and Cardiovascular Department here at Clara Maass Medical Center and strive to provide the highest quality care to our patients and outpatients,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and CEO of Clara Maass Medical Center. “One of the reasons we provide such excellent service is due to our incredible medical staff and health care team.”

“This is a testament to our excellent care we provide patients,” said Dr. Fadi Chabaan, Director of Cardiology for Clara Maass Medical Center, of the designation. Chabaan said Clara Maass offers a full complement of cardiology services, including angioplasty, a level of care that “could rival any hospital in the state.” He added of the angioplasty program, “I am really proud of our program. Our results have been excellent.”

  • Clara Maass Medical Center was one of nine hospitals in New Jersey, without an on-site cardiac surgery program, chosen to take part in an elective angioplasty program starting in 2009. Since then, our experienced cardiology medical team has performed over 700 elective angioplasty surgeries – or an average of 17 a month.
  • The Joint Commission awarded Clara Maass Medical Center Certification for both Disease-Specific Care for Heart Failure and Acute Coronary Syndrome (heart attack) and also for its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

Among the services offered by Clara Maass Medical Center are: non-invasive cardiology, a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and a Cardiac Rehabilitation Department. Non-invasive services include diagnostic testing, stress testing, echocardiograms and 24-hour monitoring. The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory provides pacemakers, balloon pumps, angioplasty, vascular procedures and other services, while the rehabilitation department offers counseling, exercise, medical evaluations and individual assessments.
