Barnabas Health Heart Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center Appoints Vice Chairman of Cardiac Surgery


Frederic F. Sardari, MD, has been named Vice Chairman of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Barnabas Health Heart Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) in Livingston. In this role he will oversee the Medical Center's sophisticated cardiac surgery program which includes robotic surgery, coronary artery bypass graft, and valve procedures including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVR) and minimally invasive surgery.

Having served as the Surgical Director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at SBMC since 2001, Dr. Sardari has been integral in the evolution of the facility's cardiac surgery program, taking the lead in the surgical and hybrid treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF) and most recently the newly developed Convergent Hybrid Ablation technique to treat AF. As an attending surgeon at both SBMC and Barnabas Health Heart Center at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, also a Barnabas Health facility, his areas of interest include coronary revascularization, aortic surgery, valve repair and minimally invasive procedures.

He is a member of the American Medical Association, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the New Jersey Society of Thoracic Surgeons and maintains a long-term interest in humanitarian and educational medical missions. He most recently traveled to the Regional Hospital of Cajamaraca, Peru as part of a cardiovascular and gynecology surgery and health campaign, and plans to return in September.

Dr. Sardari, a New York City resident, received a bachelor of arts degree in Economics from Tufts University, a master's of arts degree in Political Science from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and a doctor of medicine from the George Washington University School of Medicine. He completed his Cardiac Surgery residency training at Loma Linda University in California and was a Junior Attending Surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation prior to joining his current practice.
