One of the Top Ten Adult Heart Transplant Programs in the Nation
Jose C. Mendez, MD, FACC, has been named Medical Director of the Heart
Transplant program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC), an RWJBarnabas
Health facility located in Newark, NJ.
Dr. Mendez joins the facility from Baylor University Medical Center where
he was an integral part of the heart transplant team and served as program
director of the Heart Failure and Transplant Fellowship Program. Prior
to his work at Baylor, Dr. Mendez served as the Medical Director of the
Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support
Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, IL.

As Medical Director of the Heart Transplant Program at NBIMC, one of the
top ten adult heart transplant programs in the nation, Dr. Mendez will

leadership and oversight to the program at NBIMC.

Dr. Mendez is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Advanced
Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology with special qualifications in
Critical Care Medicine; is a member of Heart Failure Society of America,
American Society of Transplant Physicians, and the International Society
of Heart and Lung Transplantation; and is a Fellow in the American College
Dr. Mendez is fluent in both English and Spanish and will see patients
