Ocean County, NJ – Beginning Tuesday, September 10, Barnabas Health Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center, will host a free ten-week volunteer training program in Toms River for individuals interested in becoming a hospice volunteer in Ocean County. Each of the ten sessions will be held on a Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. – Noon. Programs will be held on September 10, 17 and 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29; and November 5 and 12. Upon completion of the program, volunteers will be connected with patients in close proximity to where they reside.
The volunteer training program is designed to give participants an understanding of the needs of patients and families who are coping with advanced illness. Volunteers participate with the hospice team in many ways. They can provide in-home visits or supportive phone calls, clerical office assistance, support on our inpatient unit at Community Medical Center, bereavement visits and calls, and so much more. In addition, volunteers donate time and talent to participate in our memorial services, various craft projects and the Gardening Angels project.
Registration is required. For more information, or to register to attend, please contact Liz Dorick at 732-557-7021.
