East Orange Home Health Coordinator Helps Patients Remain Independent at Home

Keisha Downing

East Orange, NJ -- Originally from Boston, Keisha Downing recently moved to East Orange, bringing with her the experience and skills necessary to fulfill the requirements of her role as home health coordinator for Barnabas Health Home Care located in West Orange.

As home health coordinator, Keisha manages the schedules for five home health aides. She ensures each patient is visited by an aide to help them with their daily needs, which sometimes means reconfiguring schedules at the last minute to account for changes in a patient’s required care.

“I’ve always worked in the medical field, including time as an administrative assistant for cardiology and gastroenterology medical practices. When I moved here, it made sense to work in home care. The medical field is second nature to me,” said Keisha, who has worked with Barnabas Heath Home Care for just over a year.

Because of her background in health care, Keisha’s shift into the home care segment of the medical field was seamless.

“While the transition to home care was easy, it’s definitely different than working in other medical offices. We’re servicing someone at their home, on their time, and you have to be mindful of that and anticipate patients’ needs so they receive the proper care.”

Keisha notes working in home care has allowed her to observe firsthand the unique impact these services have on patients’ lives.

“I enjoy providing these necessary services to patients in a timely manner and making them happy and healthy,” said Keisha. “It’s rewarding when patients call to say thank you and to praise the care we’re providing. I like knowing I am a part of helping them feel more confident and independent at home.”
