Maria Roesler, RN, MSN, Director of Program Development, Barnabas Health Hospice, has been named Nurse of the Year in the 2015 NJBIZ Healthcare Heroes awards program.
The Healthcare Heroes finalists were recognized and the winner in each category was announced during an awards breakfast and ceremony on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, New Jersey, where more than 400 guests gathered to celebrate the healthcare specialists and organizations being recognized.
In her role at Barnabas Health Hospice, Ms. Roesler oversees the program's hospital liaisons and palliative care program and practitioners. She also assists in providing education to professionals and community members regarding end-of-life care and serves as Co-Chair for the Barnabas Health End-of-Life Collaborative.
Ms. Roesler, who has worked with Barnabas Health Hospice for 24 years, is a passionate advocate for end-of-life care. "The vehicle I choose to use to empower patients and families is education," says the Green Pond resident. "My goal is to encourage patients and their loved ones to explore how they wish to live when diagnosed with a serious illness – to ensure they understand every available care option. It is a privilege to be allowed to come into their lives at such a difficult time."
