Barnabas Health Hospitals Awarded Top Scores for Safety

All six Barnabas Health acute care hospitals across the state have been awarded top scores for hospital safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization.

The Leapfrog Group, which rates hospitals and medical centers nationwide, gave an “A” – the highest Hospital Safety Score possible – to Clara Maass, Community, Kimball, Monmouth and Saint Barnabas Medical Centers. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center received a “B.” Each hospital maintained its previous grade with the exception of CMC and KMC, which advanced to an “A.” More than 2,514 hospitals, including New Jersey’s 71 hospitals, were graded.

The Hospital Safety Score uses a rating scale from A to F based on 26 categories of hospital safety data. The data measured included preventing falls and infections, preventing accidents, injuries and medication errors, providing proper staffing, and other categories. The scores were compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and are designed to give the public information they can use to make health care decisions.
