Belleville, NJ – John I. Crecco, former Mayor of Bloomfield, and his wife Marion Crecco, who served in the New Jersey General Assembly presented hospital representatives with a $12,000 donation towards a $25,000 pledge on behalf of the John I. Crecco Foundation for cardiac services at Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC).
John and Marion Crecco, along with Michael Napolitano, treasurer of the John I. Crecco Foundation, met with Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer, CMMC; Jane Newman Kessler, CFRE, Vice President, CMMC Foundation; and Marcia Fusilli, Director of Development, CMMC Foundation, in mid-June.
During the visit, Mr. and Mrs. Crecco reminisced about memories of Essex County and of Clara Maass. They shared their fondness for CMMC physicians, both former and current, many of whom they have been close friends with for years, as well as what the Medical Center has meant to them in their personal and political lives.
“This was my district for six years,” Mrs. Crecco said. “I had nothing but positive experiences in the town of Belleville and at Clara Maass Medical Center. I supported it then and I support it now.”
Thanks to the Crecco’s longstanding relationship with CMMC and their interest in quality cardiac services, the hospital was fortunate to receive a generous donation for the Medical Center’s new Cardiac Rehabilitation Suite to purchase state-of-the-art exercise equipment.
According to the Crecco family, the John I. Crecco Foundation has been dedicated to improving health and enriching lives for over 40 years. Through its efforts, the organization has contributed over $1 million dollars to hospitals in the area, including CMMC, for cardiac initiatives.
“Renovations and improvements at Clara Maass Medical Center are contingent on community philanthropy,” said Jane Kessler, vice president of the CMMC Foundation. “The fact that Mr. and Mrs. Crecco have such fond memories of the Medical Center and want to contribute to its well being is truly meaningful.”
Mr. and Mrs. Crecco said they decided to contribute to medical services at Clara Maass after receiving a letter from the CMMC Foundation about its newly renovated Cardiac Rehabilitation Suite. “I was always responsive to Clara Maass’s needs and requests,” said Mrs. Crecco. “And when I got the letter, I was happy to be able to continue to be supportive.”
Mr. Crecco served as an elected official for Bloomfield Township for 22 years, including serving as Mayor from 1986 to 1989 and being re-elected as a councilman four times. Mrs. Crecco served over 15 years in the New Jersey General Assembly, including the roles of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Assembly Assistant Majority Leader and Assembly Assistant Majority Whip.
“It means a lot to us when anyone contributes to our Medical Center’s improvements, but when the donors are especially well acquainted with our facility and the surrounding communities, it feels very familial,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, President and CEO, CMMC. “It is because of the generosity of people like the Creccos that we are able to be the high-performing medical center that we are, offering advanced technology and services.”
