Every year, the Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC) offers a "Holiday Gift Cart" to benefit oncology patients currently being treated. Through donations, individuals who are unable to shop for their loved ones are able to select gifts free of charge. When Dawn Payerl of Nutley, heard about this program from her mother, a nurse at CMMC, she took to Facebook to spread the word. Friends, family and co-workers responded immediately and within two days, she had already filled a big box of donations, shortly followed by a second box. Dawn's father was diagnosed with cancer a year ago, and so the sentiment was especially significant to her. "I know firsthand what these patients are going through," she said. "To be able to make things a little easier for them was the least I could do."
