Clara Maass Medical Center Presents Escaping the Winter Blues

11/09/2015

Feeling like you have the case of the “winter blues” that just won’t go away? Winter depression is still a mystery to scientists who study it, but researchers agree that people who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) are particularly sensitive to light, or the lack of it. In an effort to fight these melancholy feelings, Clara Maass Medical Center presents “Escaping the Winter Blues” on Monday, November 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the Montclair Public Library.

SAD is a type of depression that usually occurs as the seasons change into the winter months, when there is less natural light. It usually begins in late fall or early winter and normal mood returns in summer. Symptoms of winter-onset SAD may include irritability, low energy, weight gain, appetite changes, oversleeping and social problems such as finding it difficult to be around others.

Keep your head up this winter by joining a Clara Maass Medical Center Behavioral Health expert to discuss diagnosis, treatment and how to cope day-to-day with depression. A light lunch will be served. This event takes place at the Montclair Public Library, located at 50 South Fullerton Avenue in Montclair.

Registration is required by contacting 973-744-0500 or reference@montclair.bccls.org.
