Clara Maass Medical Center’s Lea Rodriguez Named Recipient of Nurse Executive Award from the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey

Lea Rodriguez, MAS, BS, RN Belleville, NJ (December 1, 2015) - Lea Rodriguez, MAS, BS, RN, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Clara Maass Medical Center (CMMC), a Barnabas Health facility, has been named recipient of the Nurse Executive Award from the Organization of Nurse Executives of New Jersey (ONE NJ).

The Nurse Executive Award, one of five awards given annually by ONE NJ, is presented to the most senior nurse leader in a health care organization who demonstrates exceptional leadership, guidance and service to their organization and to the profession of nursing.

Rodriguez, who is receiving the award in recognition of her work as a transformational driving force who has helped create a health care environment that exemplifies excellence, has been described by colleagues as indefatigable, motivating, compassionate, easily approachable and caring. She will be honored by ONE NJ at the Annual Holiday Meeting and Awards Brunch on December 10 at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township.

“We congratulate Lea on her well-deserved honor as ONE NJ’s Nurse Executive Award recipient,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center. “Lea is an inspiring, motivating force who is helping to transform health care and enhance patient care.”

Rodriguez’s successes include the establishment of Shared Governance Program, which enables direct care nurses to lead and create meaningful change within the health care environment at CMMC, and spearheading the effort to implement clinical ladders for nurses to provide opportunities for professional development.

A firm believer in helping members of the community lead healthier lives, Rodriguez is a staunch supporter of the Lifeline Challenge – CMMC Foundation’s Annual fundraiser – and is actively involved with the American Heart Association and the Partnership for Maternal & Child Health of Northern New Jersey’s Celebration of Motherhood.

Since joining CMMC in 2001, Rodriguez has served in a number of positions including assistant vice president of emergency services, director of emergency services, behavioral health and infection control, director of patient care finance, director of critical care and hemodialysis and nurse manager of the telemetry unit.

Rodriguez holds a master’s degree in Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a bachelor’s degree in Public Health Administration from Rutgers University and an associate’s degree in Nursing and Applied Science from Felician College. She is currently enrolled in a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at Felician College.

ONE NJ is affiliated with the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) and the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Its mission is to represent and strengthen nurse leaders and aspiring nurse leaders by providing opportunities for professional networking, education, mentorship and consultation.
