The J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center Offers Free Lung Cancer Screenings

08/20/2014

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in the United States and it is most curable when diagnosed early. In an effort to help identify those who may be at high-risk for developing lung cancer, the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, will provide free lung cancer screenings on Wednesday, September 17 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel, located at 815 Route 37 West in Toms River.

To participate, attendees must be between the ages of 50 and 74 and be a current or former smoker, who quit smoking within the past 15 years. Those who meet the criteria will be asked to complete a screening profile with a registered nurse to determine eligibility for a free, low-dose CT lung scan.

Physicians will provide information on lung cancer, including its signs and symptoms and treatment options. There will be time for questions with a panel of experts as well as a light dinner and a chance to win an iPad mini.

The J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center at Community Medical Center, a member of the Penn Cancer Network, is the leading provider of cancer services in the Ocean County region. It has been nationally recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons with accreditation since 1986.

Screenings are free of charge to those who qualify through the screening profile. Registration is required as seating is limited. If you believe you may be at risk for lung cancer, call 1-888-724-7123 to reserve your place.
