Generous grant provides specialty center for patients undergoing treatment
For over a year, patients with cancer have been benefiting from the comfort
and care they receive at the Inspiration Boutique, a specialty center
for cancer patients, located within the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer
Center at Community Medical Center.
The boutique which recently marked its one year anniversary was made possible
by generous funding from the American Cancer Society through a grant from the
Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation. Since it first opened in October 2014, 368 patients have visited the
boutique and taken advantage of the spa-like environment, holistic therapies
and extra special pampering it offers.
As patients undergoing treatments for cancer often experience hair loss,
the Inspiration Boutique provides cancer patients with access to a large
variety of wig styles and colors, along with accessories, free of charge.
“We believe in helping patients during their treatment process includes
caring for the mind, body and spirit,” says Jeremy Grunin, Executive
Director of the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation. “The Inspiration
Boutique accomplishes that by providing a beautiful soothing environment
for patients to access support services and holistic therapies.”
The Inspiration Boutique also offers an array of holistic therapies to
promote healing, including Reiki for stress reduction and relaxation and
support groups. In addition, the American Cancer Society offers Look Good,
Feel Better workshops numerous times throughout the year which offer helpful
suggestions on skin care, make up tips and much more to help patients
feel better about themselves during treatment. Breast cancer patients
also have access to mastectomy products and fitting services, post reconstruction
support and lymphedema garments.
“We hope the spa-like feel and services at the Inspiration Boutique
will help make patients feel a little more at ease and help lessen the
stress on patients and families,” says Michael Mimoso, MHSA, FACHE,
interim President and Chief Executive Officer, Community Medical Center.
“While the majority of our patients have received care at Community
Medical Center, the boutique is open to all patients undergoing cancer
treatment,” he added.
Through the grant, the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center also offers
an American Cancer Society patient navigator who assists patients during
and following their treatment process by removing obstacles and helping
them access social services, such as transportation and coping with their
disease. In addition to the patient navigator funded through the grant,
the J. Phillip Citta Regional Cancer Center also has three clinical oncology
nurse navigators - breast cancer, lung cancer and survivorship nurse navigators
- to assist patients manage the medical aspects of their care.
