Navigating holiday dinners with the help of The Center for Diabetes
Toms River, NJ—It’s the most wonderful time of the year – but not if
you’re diabetic. To help people of all ages living with diabetes
who are looking to make smart decisions as the holidays approach, The
Center for Diabetes at Community Medical Center, an affiliate of RWJBarnabas
Health, offers holiday-themed support groups to focus on staying alert
and healthy in between the pumpkin pie and carols.
Led by Kathy Siciliano, RN, CDE, both the Monthly Diabetes Support Group
and Insulin Support Group are free, open to the public and provide newcomers
and returning attendees with new, useful information. November’s
support group focus is “How Can I Enjoy Thanksgiving?” while
attendees in December will be “Figuring Out Carbs for Holiday Foods.”
Siciliano will present helpful information on navigating holiday dinner
tables, and attendees are encouraged to share their own advice and stories.
The monthly diabetes support group meets Mondays, November 21 and December
19 at 1:30 p.m. The Insulin Pump Support Group meets Tuesdays, November
15 and December 20 at 7 p.m. All groups meet at The Center for Diabetes
at Community Medical Center, located on the third floor of Riverwood Plaza
1 at 67 Route 37 West in Toms River.
