Jersey City, NJ -- For the past eight years, Jersey City Medical Center has focused on its
goal of being in the top 10% of all healthcare organizations in the United
States. Hospital administrators, employees and the medical-dental staff
have employed the rigorous Malcolm Baldrige criteria for organizational
excellence in the quest to achieve this highest level of performance.
As a result of these efforts, Jersey City Medical Center, a Barnabas Health
facility, has been selected to receive the Vision of Performance Excellence
Award (VoPE) .
VoPE is the highest quality achievement award presented on the state level
following the Malcolm Baldrige criteria for organizational excellence.
Seven categories make up the award criteria: Leadership; Strategic Planning;
Customer and Market Focus; Measurement Analysis and Knowledge; Workforce
Focus; and, most importantly, Operations Process Management and Business
Results. The hospital’s quality journey began with the submission
of an application, followed by a rigorous review. During the weeklong
on-site visit to Jersey City Medical Center in September 2015, ten examiners
reviewed the entire organization on all shifts to validate the application.
“Jersey City Medical Center is persistent in our performance improvement
efforts and we are not satisfied with just meeting expectations. Our goal
is to exceed expectations at every level,” said Joseph Scott, FACHE,
President and CEO. “Obtaining the Vision of Performance Excellence
Award (VoPE) requires a team effort from every department, from every
employee at every level, and through partnership with volunteers including
our Board of Trustees as well as community organizations”.
Brenda Hall, SVP of Patient Safety and Quality Improvement, spearheaded
the application process and felt the award criteria was a good fit for
the Hudson County not-for-profit hospital. “Jersey City Medical
Center serves as a regional referral, teaching hospital and provides the
highest level of care for women and infants, trauma, and cardiac patients.
The performance excellence criteria reflects leading-edge, validated management
practices essential to achieve top performance and to sustain the excellence
we have achieved. Our team felt pursuing this award would reflect our
commitment to provide the highest and consistent level of service and
to insure patient safety, quality care, satisfaction and economic stability,”
Barnabas Health is extremely proud of this outstanding recognition. It
is a tribute to the diligent attention to quality by the entire Jersey
City Medical Center team" said Barry H. Ostrowsky, President and
Chief Executive 0Fficer, Barnabas Health.
Robert Margulies, Esq. and Chair of the Board of Trustees added, “Jersey
City Medical Center is the first and only organization to be recognized
with the prestigious VoPE award on the East Coast of the United States
and we look forward to consideration for the national Baldrige Award.”
The award will be presented to Jersey City Medical Center with an unveiling
and celebration with staff will occur on Friday, October 30th at 9:30 AM at the entrance to the hospital.
