Medical Director of The Unterberg Children's Hospital Recognized with Joint Resolution
Monmouth Medical Center recently held a special networking event at The Wine Loft in Long Branch to honor its female physicians and members of New Jersey Legislative District 11, the first all-female legislative district in the State, in celebration of Women's History Month.
State Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande were on hand to recognize Meg Fisher, M.D, chair of pediatrics at Monmouth and medical director of The Unterberg Children's Hospital, with a joint resolution celebrating her as the first woman to serve as president of Monmouth's 900-member medical and dental staff and for her contributions to the medical community.
The resolution praised Dr. Fisher for "an abiding concern for her fellow citizens and an extraordinary sensitivity to their needs" and as a "superb leader who has exemplified the spirit of caring and compassion."
Renuka Verma, M.D., pediatric residency program director, The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, who accepted the resolution on behalf of Dr. Fisher also praised the highly-regarded, history-making pediatrician as "a testament to the spirit of this month's celebration" of women of character, courage and commitment.
Dr. Fisher will be further recognized by the Joint Legislature in Trenton this Thursday, March 20, as part of a ceremony honoring women who work in the field of life sciences.
Senator Beck, Assemblywoman Angelini and Assemblywoman Casagrande made their mark on history in 2012 when they were sworn-in as the state's first all-female legislative delegation.
Monmouth Medical Center also has its own place in history. As a leader in some of the most groundbreaking medical advances in the state, Monmouth recognizes the unique needs of women and has partnered with Spirit of Women™, an elite coalition of American hospitals and health care providers that ascribes to high standards of excellence in women's health, education and community outreach.
