Monmouth Medical Center Presents October Childbirth and Parenting Programs

CESAREAN BIRTH EDUCATION
Wednesday, October 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.
This education program is for couples and offers explanations of what to expect if Cesarean delivery is indicated for first time or repeat Cesarean deliveries. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6990. $50 per couple.

STEP (SYSTEMATIC TRAINING FOR EFFECTIVE PARENTING OF YOUNG CHILDREN)
Wednesdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Parenting young children can be challenging. The five-session STEP program focuses on understanding the behavior of young children, communication, cooperation, effective discipline and nurturing children from infancy to six years. This program will take place at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6990. $125 per couple.

TWO-DAY PREPARATION FOR CHILDBIRTH
Saturdays, October 4 & 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A complete childbirth education program in two-sessions including lectures on relaxation and breathing techniques. A continental breakfast will be provided. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6990. $160 per couple.

DADDY KNOWS BEST
Sunday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to noon
During this hands-on program for fathers-to-be, a registered nurse and father of three will teach diapering, bathing, changing and other skills to prepare first-time fathers for the new arrival. Valuable time with "veteran" dads and their babies will be included. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. ONE-DAY MARVELOUS MULTIPLES
Sunday, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This one-day childbirth education program for those expecting twins, triplets or more is to be attended early in the second trimester of pregnancy. The class will cover nutrition, labor and delivery, anesthesia options, Cesarean section, relaxation techniques, risks and complications of multiple pregnancy, recovery and caring for multiples. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. There will also be a tour of the Regional Newborn Center. EISENBERG FAMILY CENTER TOUR
Sunday, October 12 at 3 p.m.
Tour the Eisenberg Family Center, which offers a comfortable, homelike environment for expectant mothers in our expanded labor, delivery and recovery unit, and spacious postpartum rooms for women recovering from childbirth. Tours will be conducted by a staff member who will answer your questions. Tours are held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 1-888-724-7123. BABY CARE BASICS
Saturdays, October 18 & 25 from 1 to 3 p.m.
This two-session program focuses on the care of the new baby including bathing, dressing, feeding and infant growth. Learn everything you need to know about infant care including development, safety and decisions about returning to work and other adjustments to life with baby for the new parents. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6990. $95 per couple.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR TODDLER
Monday, October 20 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Babies between the age of 1 and 3 are starting to walk, say "no" and throw tantrums. This program features a discussion of coping strategies for life with a toddler, including real parent-tested techniques. Communication, discipline, building confidence and learning patience will be covered. Ample time for questions and answers is provided in this interactive class. This program will take place at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6990. $75 per person.

BABY FAIR
Thursday, October 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Is there a baby in your future? Whether you're already pregnant or plan on becoming a parent someday, you are invited to this free community event for expectant and prospective parents. Here's your chance to talk with health care professionals about the childbirth experience, maternity choices or any other topics that are important to you. Join us for a tour of the Eisenberg Family Center and nursery. Refreshments and free gifts will be offered. MAKE ROOM FOR BABY
Saturday, October 25 from 10 to 11 a.m.
This is a special program for families and siblings (age two and older) who are expecting a baby brother or sister. Staff will acquaint them with the hospital setting and help to prepare them for the baby. This is held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. ONE-DAY CHILDBIRTH PROGRAM
Sunday, October 26 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
A complete childbirth preparation course in one day geared for highly motivated participants with busy lifestyles or fluctuating schedules unable to commit to a five-week program. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. ADOPTIVE PARENTING

Planning an adoption? This program helps you prepare for your child's arrival. Classes include information on infant care, feeding and formula preparation, baby equipment, safety and child growth and development during the first year of life. For information, call 732-923-6990. $175 per couple.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM
Call to schedule an appointment.
This one-session class is designed for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Participants will learn how gestational diabetes develops, the link between diet and blood glucose, how to plan healthy meals and how to use a blood glucose meter for home monitoring. A free blood glucose meter starter kit will be provided. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday as needed at The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch.
