Get a jump start on your summer wardrobe while helping local postpartum depression (PPD) nonprofits by attending Athleta Shrewsbury's exclusive 2015 summer collection fashion show presented by Warren-Tricomi Salon on Thursday, May 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. The event will feature prizes, raffles and refreshments provided by Earth Pizza, and shopping for a good cause.
Throughout the evening, 10 percent of sales will benefit Climb out of the Darkness—the world's largest event raising awareness of maternal mental illness such as PPD, anxiety, OCD and psychosis. Funds raised will also enable the nonprofit Postpartum Progress to create new educational materials to be used by obstetricians, pediatricians and others.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about PPD – a condition that affects one in seven women – with local expert Lisa Tremayne, RN, CCE, CBC, coordinator of the Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program at Monmouth Medical Center and The Unterberg Children's Hospital. The program offers a multidisciplinary team of experts from psychiatry, nursing and social work who help women cope with PPD. Services include a weekly support group, individual, couple and group counseling, mother-infant bonding classes, pregnancy group sessions, therapy for dads, medication management, psychiatric evaluation and referrals to supportive services.
