Monmouth Medical Center recently presented two nurses with the Maysie Stroock Nursing Education Award, an honor that recognizes nurses who exemplify the finest in patient care and excellence. The award was established by the late Stroock, a longtime hospital trustee.
Monmouth Medical Center employees Dana Delatush, RN, BSN, ONC, coordinator of The Joint Replacement Center and Spine Center, and Dave Dematteo, RN, who rose through the ranks at Monmouth Medical Center, are the recipients. Delatush, of Long Branch and Dematteo, of Howell, were selected by the family of Maysie Strook and will each receive a $1,500 scholarship to be used toward education to further their health care careers.
Delatush started her 14-year health care career working on a medical surgical unit at Monmouth Medical Center. She completed her bachelor's degree in nursing in 2009 and is working toward her master's degree as a nurse practitioner. As coordinator of The Joint Replacement Center, Delatush helped increase patient volume as well as overall patient satisfaction - earning recognition from the Press Ganey National survey for its 99th percentile ranking. Both The Joint Replacement Center and Spine Center, formalized in 2012, were awarded The Joint Commission's Seal of Excellence for Quality for three consecutive years.
Dematteo's health care career spans over 30 years, starting with various EMT positions prior to joining Monmouth Medical Center as a patient care associate in 2007. His interest in hospital acute care led him to pursue an associate degree in nursing, followed by a bachelor of science degree. Dematteo started out as an Emergency Department staff nurse on the night shift and was quickly promoted to charge nurse where he managed the entire operations. Recently, he was promoted to Assistant Clinical Director on the night shift.
