Monmouth Medical Center Presents April Childbirth and Parenting Programs

CESAREAN BIRTH EDUCATION
Wednesday, April 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.

This education program is for couples and offers explanations of what to expect if Cesarean delivery is indicated for first time or repeat Cesarean deliveries. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue, Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6992. $50 per couple.

POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION (PPD)/ANXIETY SUPPORT GROUP
Thursdays, April 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

This support group is a safe, non-threatening group for moms or expectant moms experiencing any of the perinatal mood disorders including but not limited to sadness, anger, anxiety, OCD, intrusive/compulsive thoughts, panic or post traumatic stress disorder. Weekly meetings are facilitated by a maternal/child health RN who specializes in PPD. This group is co-sponsored by Central Jersey Family Health Consortium and is held at Pollak Center, located at 75 N. Bath Avenue in Long Branch. For information call Lisa Tremayne at 732-923-5573. BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT GROUP
Mondays, April 6, 13, 20 and 27 from 10 to 11 a.m.

This support group is run by a registered, board-certified lactation consultant with NICU experience. Topics covered will include newborn and growing infants, premature infants in hospital and at home, pumping and exclusive pumping, common challenges as well as all topics and issues related to breastfeeding. This group meets at Monmouth Medical Center’s Stanley Room 214, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6992. Free.

MOTHER TO MOTHER SUPPORT GROUP
Mondays, April 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Once your baby arrives, join other new mothers to talk about what you are experiencing. Discussions will be led by a registered nurse on topics including infant behavior, feeding, sleeping patterns and crying, as well as recovering from childbirth. Newborns up to age 6 months and fathers are welcome. The program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. TWO-DAY PREPARATION FOR CHILDBIRTH
Saturdays, April 11 & 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A complete childbirth education program in two-sessions including lectures on relaxation and breathing techniques. A continental breakfast will be provided. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6992. $160 per couple.

MAKE ROOM FOR BABY
Saturday, April 11 from 10 to 11 a.m.

This is a special program for families and siblings (age two and older) who are expecting a baby brother or sister. Staff will acquaint them with the hospital setting and help to prepare them for the baby. This is held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. BABY CARE BASICS
Saturday, April 11 from 1 to 3 p.m.

This two-session program focuses on the care of the new baby including bathing, dressing, feeding and infant growth. Learn everything you need to know about infant care including development, safety and decisions about returning to work and other adjustments to life with baby for the new parents. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6992. $95 per couple.

EISENBERG FAMILY CENTER TOUR
Sundays, April 12 & 26 at 3 p.m.
Saturday, April 18 at 8 p.m.

Tour theEisenberg Family Center, which offers a comfortable, homelike environment for expectant mothers in our expanded labor, delivery and recovery unit, and spacious postpartum rooms for women recovering from childbirth. Tours will be conducted by a staff member who will answer your questions. Tours are held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. PREPARATION FOR CHILDBIRTH
Tuesdays, April 14, 21, 28 & May 5 & 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.

MOMS OF MULTIPLES SUPPORT GROUP
Wednesday, April 15 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Come join the only Moms of Multiples Support Group in the area. Led by a registered nurse and a mother of multiples herself, topics will include feeding and caring for more than one baby, sleep patterns and behaviors, getting out of the house, relationship changes and more. Meet and network with other new moms whose situations are similar to your own. Babies are welcome. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. STORY PIRATES
Thursday, April 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in collaboration with the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation presents Story Pirates, a nationally acclaimed theatrical group, at the Ranney School in Tinton Falls. The program, recommended for children ages 3 to 12, begins with fun music, healthy snacks and interactive learning experiences with pediatric specialists. Children are invited to submit stories about health and wellness, such as exercise, nutrition, health or visiting the doctor. Stories will be selected to come to life as part of the Story Pirates’ full-scale stage production. Ranney School is located at 235 Hope Road in Tinton Falls. Tickets for Story Pirates are: $25 per person and $15 for children 12 and younger. Proceeds of the event will benefit The Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center. ONE-DAY CHILDBIRTH PROGRAM
Sunday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A complete childbirth preparation course in one day geared for highly motivated participants with busy lifestyles or fluctuating schedules unable to commit to a five-week program. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. ADOPTIVE PARENTING

Planning an adoption? This program helps you prepare for your child’s arrival. Classes include information on infant care, feeding and formula preparation, baby equipment, safety and child growth and development during the first year of life. For information, call 732-923-6992. $175 per couple.

GESTATIONAL DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAM
Call to schedule an appointment.

This one-session class is designed for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy. Participants will learn how gestational diabetes develops, the link between diet and blood glucose, how to plan healthy meals and how to use a blood glucose meter for home monitoring. A free blood glucose meter starter kit will be provided. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday as needed at The Center for Diabetes Education at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. PEDIATRIC PRE-OPERATIVE TOURS

Tours are available for pediatric patients preparing to have a surgical procedure in the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center at Monmouth. Tours are designed to reduce anxiety giving children a hands-on experience with medical equipment and visitation to areas they will encounter on the day of their surgery. Meet in the Pediatric Playroom of the Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6525. Free.
