Monmouth Medical Center Presents October Childbirth and Parenting Programs

POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION (PPD)/ANXIETY SUPPORT GROUP
Thursdays, October 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.

This support group is a safe, non-threatening group for moms or expectant moms experiencing any of the perinatal mood disorders including but not limited to sadness, anger, anxiety, OCD, intrusive/compulsive thoughts, panic or post traumatic stress disorder. Weekly meetings are facilitated by a maternal/child health RN who specializes in PPD. This group is co-sponsored by Central Jersey Family Health Consortium and is held at Maysie Stroock Pavilion, at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. TWO-DAY PREPARATION FOR CHILDBIRTH
Saturdays October 3 & 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A complete childbirth education program in two-sessions including lectures on relaxation and breathing techniques. A continental breakfast will be provided. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6992. $160 per couple.

ONE-DAY MARVELOUS MULTIPLES
Sunday, October 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This one-day childbirth education program for those expecting twins, triplets or more is to be attended early in the second trimester of pregnancy. The class will cover nutrition, labor and delivery, anesthesia options, Cesarean section, relaxation techniques, risks and complications of multiple pregnancy, recovery and caring for multiples. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. There will also be a tour of the Regional Newborn Center. UNDERSTANDING YOUR TODDLER
Sunday, October 4 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Babies between the age of 1 and 3 are starting to walk, say “no” and throw tantrums. This program features a discussion of coping strategies for life with a toddler, including real parent-tested techniques. Communication, discipline, building confidence and learning patience will be covered. Ample time for questions and answers is provided in this interactive class. This program will take place at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. Registration is required by calling 732-923-6992. $75 per couple.

MOTHER TO MOTHER SUPPORT GROUP
Mondays, October 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Once your baby arrives, join other new mothers to talk about what you are experiencing. Discussions will be led by a registered nurse on topics including infant behavior, feeding, sleeping patterns and crying, as well as recovering from childbirth. Newborns up to age 6 months and fathers are welcome. The program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. CESAREAN BIRTH EDUCATION
Wednesday, October 7 from 7 to 9 p.m.

This education program is for couples and offers explanations of what to expect if Cesarean delivery is indicated for first time or repeat Cesarean deliveries. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6992. $50 per couple.

DADDY KNOWS BEST
Sunday, October 11 from 9 a.m. to noon

During this hands-on program for fathers-to-be, a registered nurse and father of three will teach diapering, bathing, changing and other skills to prepare first-time fathers for the new arrival. Valuable time with “veteran” dads and their babies will be included. This class will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. EISENBERG FAMILY CENTER TOUR
Sundays, October 11 or 25 at 3 p.m. and
Wednesday, October 14 at 8 p.m.

Tour the Eisenberg Family Center, which offers a comfortable, homelike environment for expectant mothers in our expanded labor, delivery and recovery unit, and spacious postpartum rooms for women recovering from childbirth. Tours will be conducted by a staff member who will answer your questions. Tours are held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. BABY CARE BASICS
Thursdays, October 17 & 24 from 1 to 3 p.m.

This two-session program focuses on the care of the new baby including bathing, dressing, feeding and infant growth. Learn everything you need to know about infant care including development, safety and decisions about returning to work and other adjustments to life with baby for the new parents. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. To register, call 732-923-6992. $95 per couple.

MOMS OF MULTIPLES SUPPORT GROUP
Wednesday, October 21 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Come join the only Moms of Multiples Support Group in the area. Led by a registered nurse and a mother of multiples herself, topics will include feeding and caring for more than one baby, sleep patterns and behaviors, getting out of the house, relationship changes and more. Meet and network with other new moms whose situations are similar to your own. Babies are welcome. This program will be held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. BABY FAIR
Thursday, October 22 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Is there a baby in your future? Whether you’re already pregnant or plan on becoming a parent someday, you are invited to this free community event for expectant and prospective parents. Here’s your chance to talk with health care professionals about the childbirth experience, maternity choices or any other topics that are important to you. Join us for a tour of the Eisenberg Family Center and nursery. Refreshments and free gifts will be offered. MAKE ROOM FOR BABY
Saturday, October 24 from 10 to 11 a.m.

This is a special program for families and siblings (age two and older) who are expecting a baby brother or sister. Staff will acquaint them with the hospital setting and help to prepare them for the baby. This program is held at Monmouth Medical Center, located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch. ONE-DAY CHILDBIRTH PROGRAM
Sunday, October 25 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A complete childbirth preparation course in one day geared for highly motivated participants with busy lifestyles or fluctuating schedules unable to commit to a five-week program. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. The course will be held at Monmouth Medical Center located at 300 Second Avenue in Long Branch.
