Monmouth Medical Center and WEforum Promote Health Education at Women’s Health and Wellness Conference


Monmouth Medical Center, a RWJBarnabas Health facility, in partnership with WEforum, a female-led organization whose mission is to strengthen the health and wellness of communities within New Jersey, will host the inaugural WEforum Women’s Health and Wellness Conference on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ocean Place Resort and Spa in Long Branch.

WEforum targets women because they’re often the guardians of health maintenance for their families, as well as for themselves. Capsulizing the deeper mission of WEforum is their tagline, “When you educate a woman, she empowers her family, and together WE can evolve a community.”

The day-long conference, designed to provide an opportunity for participants to gain a fuller understanding of caring for their health and that of their family’s through education and early prevention, will feature a host of workshops led by experts from medical and health-related disciplines, including keynote speaker Marion Nestle, Ph.D., M.P.H., The Food Politics Professor and best-selling author. Speakers and lecture topics will include: Matthew R. Kaufman, M.D., plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Monmouth Medical Center, “Best Non-surgical Options for Looking Youthful;” Jessica Israel, M.D., division chief, geriatrics and palliative care at Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, “Caring for our Aging Parents;” Nidhi Kumar, M.D., cardiologist, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, “Meditation and the Power of Positive Thinking;” Nicole Avena, Ph.D., research neuroscientist and assistant professor, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, “Your Brain on Sugar: The Bitter Truth;” Casey McElligott, nutritionist and founder, Project Physique, “It’s Not You. It’s Your Hormones!;”and more.

Additionally, the event will include free health screening, giveaways and raffles and a vendor fair featuring local medical practices, health care facilities and businesses in the fitness, food, cosmetics and wellness education fields.

Proceeds from the conference will support free educational health and wellness programs and services developed by Monmouth Medical Center to make vital health care information accessible to the entire community. Monmouth Medical Center offers a wide range of free preventative screenings, support groups and health education programs for children, adult and seniors to promote healthy lifestyles through wellness and prevention.
