Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center Presents May Programs for Seniors

Every Friday, May 2 through August 8 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Move today for a healthier tomorrow! Health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center invite seniors age 60 and older to this free, non-aerobic, simple exercise program in a fun, motivating environment. Throughout the sessions you will increase strength and flexibility, improve balance and posture, relieve tension and stress and reduce the risk of falls and injury. The program will take place at The Center for Healthy Living at Kimball Medical Center, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Lunch & Learn: Safety after Sixty
Wednesday, May 7 from noon to 2 p.m.
Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center as they discuss the key things involved with senior safety and things you can do in your home to prevent a fall. Participants will learn how to safely get up from a fall and have access to complimentary balance screenings. Lunch will be provided at this free event taking place at the Jackson Township Library, located at 2 Jackson Drive in Jackson. Space is limited and registration is required by calling the Jackson Township Library at 732-928-4400.

Sweet Dreams for Seniors: How to Get a Good Night's Sleep

Friday, May 9 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Are you restless at night? Do you feel sleepy during the day after a full night's sleep? Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center to learn what could be causing these problems and recommendations on how to address them. Refreshments will be provided at this free event taking place at the Howell Township Library, located at 318 Old Tavern Road in Howell. Registration is required by calling the Howell Library at 732-938-2300.

Osteoporosis 101: Free Bone Density Screenings
Wednesday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to noon
Open to members of the Freehold Senior Center
Osteoporosis affects men and women of all ages. The Center for Healthy Aging, in cooperation with the Pharmacy Department at Kimball Medical Center, will host a presentation on osteoporosis and discuss risk factors and how to recognize its signs and symptoms for members of the Freehold Senior Center. Free bone density screenings and refreshments will be provided following the presentation, which takes place at Freehold Senior Center, located at 116 Jackson Mills Road in Freehold Township. Now Hear This!
Wednesday, May 21 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Center for Healthy Aging and the Department of Audiology at Kimball Medical Center have teamed up to present Sue Ellen Boyer, MD, FAAA, as she discusses age-related hearing loss and facts about hearing aids. Dr. Boyer will also explore common signs of hearing loss and tips on hearing loss prevention. A Hearing Health Quick Test will be offered free of charge as part of the program and light refreshments will be served at this event taking place at the Howell Township Library, located at 318 Old Tavern Road in Howell. Registration is required by calling the Howell Library at 732-938-2300.

FREE Bone Density Screenings
Tuesday, May 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
No bones about it – bone health is an important part of overall health. Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center to receive your free bone density screenings and learn more about your bone health. These free screenings will be offered at the County Connection at Ocean County Mall, located at Hooper Avenue in Toms River.

Senior Health & Fitness Celebration
Wednesday, May 28 from 9 a.m. to noon
Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center and other professionals from Kimball for a variety of health screenings at the Ocean County YMCA's Senior Health & Fitness Celebration. Kimball staff will be on hand to offer audiology screenings, glucose screenings, respiratory screenings, bone density screenings, pharmacy consults and prescription disposal information. This annual event will be held at the Ocean County YMCA, located at 1088 Whitty Road in Toms River. In addition to the free health screenings offered by Kimball Medical Center, you will have the opportunity to see all the Y has to offer older adults. Tai Chi
Thursdays, June 5 through July 31 from 2 to 3 p.m.
No class July 3
The Center for Healthy Aging at Kimball Medical Center is proud to announce the return of instructor Kit Lau, who has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 10 years and will instruct participants on the fine art of Tai Chi moves from both standing and sitting positions. This class is offered to all seniors despite medical conditions. Cost is $40 for eight sessions, all held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Space is limited, and registration is required by May 29 by calling 732-575-0452.
