Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Presents October Senior Community Programs

Chair Yoga
Fridays, October 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Join the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to "get fit while you sit" as they present Chair Yoga, a new exercise class for seniors. Led by Eileen Tremarco, Laksmi Volker Chair Yoga instructor, HHC, Chair Yoga will help you to relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, enhance your flexibility, increase circulation, and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and feeling of well being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Tai Chi
Thursdays, October 9 through December 4 from 2 to 3 p.m.
No class on Thanksgiving, November 27
The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus is proud to announce the return of instructor Kit Lau, who has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 10 years and will instruct participants on the fine art of Tai Chi moves from both standing and sitting positions. This class is offered to all seniors despite medical conditions. Cost is $40 for eight sessions, all held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Growing Older, Staying Healthy
Tuesday, October 21 at 3 p.m.

How do you stay healthy after age 65 and beyond? What can you expect as you age? Learn answers to these questions and more from health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus as they present Growing Older, Staying Healthy. The health coaches will also discuss common changes, ailments and conditions that occur as we age. This program takes place at the Point Pleasant Borough Library, located at 834 Beaver Dam Road in Point Pleasant. This program is free, but registration is required by calling 732-295-1555.

Intimacy, Sex and Today's Mature Adult
Tuesday, October 21 at 3 p.m.

Health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus invite senior residents of Ocean County, age 60 and older, to this free program that uncovers truths and dispels the myths surrounding sex after 60. The program, sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, takes place at the Lavallette Library located at 112 Jersey City Avenue in Lavallette. Health Coaches Attend Health Expo
Friday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It's that time of year again – time for the health expo hosted by the Jackson Senior Center! Come by and say hi to health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and receive free health screenings and giveaways. The Health Expo will be held at the Jackson Township Senior Center, located at 45 Don Connor Drive in Jackson. Stop by the tables and learn about the Center for Healthy Aging and what it offers, such as preventative screenings, informational workshops and more, all in an effort to help you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.

Osteoporosis 101 and Free Bone Density Screenings
Tuesday, October 28 from 10 a.m. to noon
Osteoporosis affects men and women of all ages. The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, in cooperation with the Monmouth County Parks System, will host a presentation on osteoporosis and discuss risk factors and how to recognize its signs and symptoms. Free bone density screenings and refreshments will be provided following the presentation, which takes place at the Manasquan Reservoir Environmental Center, part of the Monmouth County Parks System, located at 331 Georgia Tavern Road in Howell. Registration is required through the Monmouth County Parks System by calling 732-842-4000.

Stroke Awareness and Prevention
Wednesday, October 29 at 11 a.m.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stroke kills almost 130,000 Americans each year. Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus as they provide information on stroke, its causes, and ways to prevent stroke from occurring. This event takes place at the Boscov's auditorium at the Ocean County Mall, located at Hooper Avenue in Toms River. Registration is required by calling SCAN at 732-542-1326.

Sweet Dreams for Seniors: How to Get a Good Night's Sleep
Wednesday, October 29 at 1 p.m.
Are you restless at night? Do you feel sleepy during the day after a full night's sleep? Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus to learn what could be causing these problems and recommendations on how to address them. Refreshments will be provided at this free event taking place in the Boscov's auditorium at the Ocean County Mall, located at Hooper Avenue in Toms River. FREE Bone Density Screenings
Thursday, October 30 from noon to 3 p.m.
No bones about it – bone health is an important part of overall health. Join health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus to receive your free bone density screenings and learn more about your bone health. These free screenings will be offered at the ShopRite of Jackson, located at 260 North County Line Road in Jackson.
