Kimball Medical Center, a Barnabas Health facility, and the Kimball Medical Center Foundation are seeking caring individuals interested in contributing their time, talent and energy as volunteer members of the hospital's dedicated healthcare team and the Foundation's three thrift shops.
"As Kimball prepares to merge with Monmouth Medical Center, the need for a robust volunteer base has never been greater. It's also an exciting time to become involved as we transition to best meet the needs of the patients we serve," said Donna Salin, director of Volunteer Services at Kimball Medical Center. "When you volunteer at Kimball, you become an integral part of a hospital that is dedicated to delivering the highest quality health care to our community and improving the lives of our patients, their families and visitors."
Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas:
- Kimball Thrift Shop Locations – part of the Kimball Medical Center Foundation, three locations help fund many outstanding health-related programs and state-of-the-art medical technology. Volunteers are needed immediately for Kimball Closet on Prospect Road in Jackson, as well as for Lots for Little shop on Route 9 in Lakewood and Treasure Chest on Route 70 in Lakehurst.
- Patient Contact – these volunteers can serve as patient advocates and liaisons by assisting patients in getting their needs met, delivering flowers and mail, and lending a friendly smile or a sympathetic ear when needed.
- Reception – a reception volunteer is among the first friendly face people see upon entering the facility. They are also the welcoming voices on the other end of the phone when people for patient information.
- General Volunteers – general volunteers perform a variety of behind-the-scenes tasks such as performing patient discharges, serving as a courier throughout the hospital, assembling admission packets, and assisting with mailings and paperwork.
According to Salin, studies show that volunteering is good for mental and physical health – for both volunteers and the people they are helping. "Most volunteers find deep fulfillment in helping to care for those who must spend time in a hospital," said Salin. "Their warmth and caring has a great impact on countless sick and lonely patients."
Volunteers are also an integral part to any organization. They help demonstrate community support, act as ambassadors for the organization to the surrounding community, extend resources of the organization and the ability to bring new ideas and fresh energy to the staff.
Each volunteer assignment is specially tailored to match the needs of the hospital with the schedule, abilities and interests of the volunteer. Kimball provides a comprehensive orientation and volunteer training program, as well as flexible hours, rewarding experiences, the opportunity to develop new friendships and the personal satisfaction that comes from helping others.
