COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION

Diabetes Self-Management Education
Wednesdays, November 5, 12 and 19 from 3 to 6 p.m.
More than 21 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with diabetes. The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus offers a Diabetes Self-Management Education program staffed by knowledgeable health professionals who provide comprehensive information about managing diabetes. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, this program offers education for those living with diabetes on managing the disease so they can maintain healthy, active lives and reduce their risk for complications. Taught by registered nurses and registered dietitians – all Certified Diabetes Educators – the program also includes a presentation by Christopher Blakeslee, DPM, a podiatrist at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus. Sessions are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. A doctor's prescription is required. Registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.

Classic and Gentle Yoga for All Ages
Fridays, November 7, 14, 21 and 28
Classic: from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Gentle: from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Men and women of all ages can enjoy the benefits of increased flexibility, range of motion, energy and relaxation by participating in Friday morning classic or gentle yoga. Gentle enough for beginners and seasoned practitioners, classic yoga includes the sun salutation warrior pose and shoulder stand, and gentle yoga includes the full range of basic yoga stretches and positions. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, the classes are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Cost is $5 per class, and space is limited. Tuesdays, November 4, 11, 18 and 25 from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m.
AND Tuesdays, November 11 and 25 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.
Learn what to expect in the grieving process and how to deal with your expectations as well as the expectations of others in this group, sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Caregivers Support Group
Tuesdays, November 4, 11, 18 and 25 from noon to 2 p.m.
AND Wednesdays, November 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.
This ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County. It is sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group
Wednesdays, November 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this free ongoing support group helps participants learn and share with others facing the unique challenges of being a "grandfamily." Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Diabetes Support Group
Wednesday, November 26 from 3 to 4 p.m.
Living with diabetes can be challenging, but we can help. Join the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for a free support group to learn how to manage your blood glucose and continue enjoying the foods you love. Share with others the challenges and victories of daily glucose management. This free group is supported by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and partially funded by the Ocean County Office of Senior Services and will be held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood.
