COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION

Diabetes Self-Management Education
Wednesdays, December 3, 10 and 17 from 3 to 6 p.m.
More than 21 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with diabetes. The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus offers a Diabetes Self-Management Education program staffed by knowledgeable health professionals who provide comprehensive information about managing diabetes. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, this program offers education for those living with diabetes on managing the disease so they can maintain healthy, active lives and reduce their risk for complications. Taught by registered nurses and registered dietitians – all Certified Diabetes Educators – the program also includes a presentation by Christopher Blakeslee, DPM, a podiatrist at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus. Sessions are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. A doctor's prescription is required. Registration is required by calling 1-888-724-7123.

Classic and Gentle Yoga for All Ages
Fridays, December 5, 12 and 19
Classic: from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Gentle: from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Men and women of all ages can enjoy the benefits of increased flexibility, range of motion, energy and relaxation by participating in Friday morning classic or gentle yoga. Gentle enough for beginners and seasoned practitioners, classic yoga includes the sun salutation warrior pose and shoulder stand, and gentle yoga includes the full range of basic yoga stretches and positions. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, the classes are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Cost is $5 per class, and space is limited. Tai Chi

The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus is proud to announce the return of instructor Kit Lau, who has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 10 years and will instruct participants on the fine art of Tai Chi moves from both standing and sitting positions. This class is offered to all seniors despite medical conditions. Cost is $40 for eight sessions, all held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Move today for a healthier tomorrow! Health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus invite seniors age 60 and older to this free, non-aerobic, simple exercise program in a fun, motivating environment. Throughout the sessions you will increase strength and flexibility, improve balance and posture, relieve tension and stress and reduce the risk of falls and injury. The program will take place at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Chair Yoga
Fridays, December 5, 12, 19 and 26 from 2 to 3 p.m.
Join the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to "get fit while you sit" as they present Chair Yoga, a new exercise class for seniors. Led by Eileen Tremarco, Laksmi Volker Chair Yoga instructor, HHC, Chair Yoga will help you to relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, enhance your flexibility, increase circulation, and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and feeling of well being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Learn what to expect in the grieving process and how to deal with your expectations as well as the expectations of others in this group, sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Caregivers Support Group

This ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County. It is sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services.
