Glucose Screenings at the Center for Healthy Living
Tuesday, September 1 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Do you have diabetes? The disease affects 29.1 million people – and 8.1 million are unaware they have diabetes. Learn your risk by joining the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for free glucose screenings by a registered nurse who is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Fasting is not required, but please do not eat at least two hours before your test. Screenings are offered at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Registration is required by calling 1-888-724-7123.

Take Control of Your Health – Six-Week Series
Wednesdays, September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and October 7 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Those living with a chronic disease often struggle to control their symptoms. This engaging, six-week, chronic disease self-management workshop will teach older adults and their caregivers how to manage the day-to-day issues associated with chronic disease by focusing on a positive attitude and adopting healthier lifestyle patterns. Presented by the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this program takes place at the Ocean County Library, Jackson Township Branch located at 2 Jackson Drive in Jackson. Quarterly Health Screenings
Thursday, September 3 from 9 to 11 a.m.

The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus will be on-site at the Brick Township Senior Center for free health screenings. Staff from the Center for Healthy Aging will offer free blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings. This program, for residents of Brick Township ages 60 and older, will take place at the Brick Township Senior Center located at 373 Adamston Road in Brick. No registration is required. Self Defense for Older Adults
Tuesdays, September 8 and 22 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Learn to protect yourself from future falls through exercise, balance and strength training. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to ward-off assaults and attacks using leverage. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Fall Prevention
Tuesday, September 15 at 12:45 p.m.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, millions of adults aged 65 and older fall and receive moderate to severe injuries such as hip fractures and head traumas. In an effort to promote healthier lifestyles, the Center for Healthy Aging will host a Fall Prevention lecture with a demonstration on how to safely get up from a fall as well as free balance screenings. This lecture takes place at the Jackson Township Senior Center located at 45 Don Connor Blvd in Jackson.

Silverwoods Expo
Friday, September 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This expo will feature various exhibitors geared toward seniors. There will be free giveaways and refreshments available. .Attendees will also have a chance to participate in a raffle drawing. Join the health coaches from the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for this exciting Senior Expo!

Staying Falls Free Lunch and Learn
Monday, September 21 at 11:30 a.m.
We all know that a fall can have life-changing consequences; however, falls can be avoided! Empower yourself and join the Center for Healthy Aging for a practical, interactive discussion on some of the most common causes of accidental and unexplained falls and how they may be avoided. This presentation will also include a demonstration on the safest way to get up after a fall. Lunch will be provided. Following the program, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a free balance screening. Registration is required by calling 1-888-724-7123.

Staying Safe After Sixty
Tuesday, September 22 at 10 a.m.
In recognition of Healthy Aging Month, the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus presents Staying Safe After Sixty. Regardless of age, we all have accidents and mishaps. These accidents can be more serious and potentially life threatening over age 65. Join the health coaches for an informative and practical session on tips to avoid injury and what steps to take if you do have an accident – including a demonstration on how to get up safely from a fall.
