According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women. Approximately 42.2 million Americans age 60 and older have one or more forms of cardiovascular disease. To promote awareness of heart disease, the Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, in cooperation with the hospital's Pharmacy Department, will present a Heart Health Lunch and Learn on Wednesday, April 1 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to discuss heart disease prevention strategies and treatments.
Led by Barbara Greenberg Schwartz, RPh, CCP-Community Outreach Pharmacist, the discussion will cover the top five heart medication classes and their functions. In addition, Jennifer Klein, RD, of the ShopRite of Manchester, will provide a cooking demonstration that will include delicious, heart healthy ingredients. Attendees will receive lunch and are encouraged to wear red to promote awareness of heart disease.
This free event will be held at the Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Registration is required by calling Kelly DeLeon at 732-597-6075.
