Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Appoints New Regional Medical Director of Oncology Clinical Research

Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus has appointed Seth Cohen, M.D. as Regional Medical Director of Oncology Clinical Research, and he is now available to see patients located in northern Ocean County.

Fellowship trained in hematology and oncology, Dr. Cohen will use the knowledge he has gained from his extensive research experience to provide patients at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus with the latest in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Cohen specializes in oncology and hematology—particularly breast, colorectal and lung cancers, lymphomas and genitourinary and gynecological malignancies. Additionally, he has a subspecialty in pain and palliative care.

The Outpatient Infusion Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus provides patients with a convenient, comfortable option for receiving infusion medications including chemotherapy for cancer treatment, as well as drug infusions to treat Crohn's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and more. The newly renovated Center features private and semi-private rooms, new chairs and flat screen televisions so those requiring infusion services can rest comfortably.

In his new role, Dr. Cohen will expand patient access to clinical research trials at the Leon Hess Cancer Center at Monmouth Medical Center, providing northern Ocean County residents with resources that combine the efforts of laboratory and clinical investigators to improve cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

"When standard care has been exhausted and patients need to look for research trials, we now can offer them here. We have never had that option before," said Portia Lagmay-Fuentes, Regional Cancer Services Administrator.

Dr. Cohen earned a medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in Buffalo, New York. He completed his residency and fellowship at University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey and Fox Chase/Temple University Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
