Collecting non-perishable food items until November 13
Lakewood, N.J. (September 23, 2015) – Almost three years ago, Superstorm Sandy unleashed her devastating fury on tens of thousands of New Jersey residents and yet today, many local residents are still struggling from the aftermath of destruction. In response to the needs of these Ocean County residents, the People's Pantry, part of Individuals Needing Support Provided In a Respectful Environment, (INSPIRE-NJ) was created to assist those individuals.
To support the People's Pantry, Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus is hosting a Food Drive and collecting non-perishable food items for Ocean County residents through November 13. Collection bins will be stationed at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus' cafeteria, nursing and volunteer offices, quality/standards office as well as the human resources office. All non-perishable food items will be accepted, however the People's Pantry is in need of the following items:
- Canned protein items such as tuna, peanut butter, chicken or beans
- Canned soups
- Canned fruit, fruit snacks for children
- School lunch items for children
- Canned vegetables
- Breakfast foods such as cereal, breakfast bars or hot cereals
- Dried potatoes
- Thanksgiving canned vegetables
The People's Pantry was formed after Superstorm Sandy devastated local shore communities in 2012. Through a partnership with Jon Bon Jovi's B.E.A.T Center, the People's Pantry is the largest and most comprehensive relief center in New Jersey, able to provide food, information and connections to services and programs to hardworking, middle-class people from the tristate area. The Center also provides job retraining, assistances with tax preparation and helps these residents to acquire food stamps and affordable healthcare.
