Glucose Screenings at The Center for Healthy Living
Tuesday, December 1 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Do you have diabetes? The disease affects 29.1 million people – and 8.1 million are unaware they have diabetes. Learn about your risk by joining The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for free glucose screenings by a registered nurse who is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Fasting is not required, but please do not eat at least two hours before your test. Screenings are offered at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The screenings are sponsored by The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Diabetes Self-Management Education
Wednesdays, December 2, 9 and 16 from 3 to 6 p.m.

More than 21 million people in the U.S. are diagnosed with diabetes. The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus offers a Diabetes Self-Management Education program staffed by knowledgeable health professionals who provide comprehensive information about managing diabetes. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, this program offers education for those living with diabetes on managing the disease so they can maintain healthy, active lives and reduce their risk for complications. Taught by registered nurses and registered dietitians – all Certified Diabetes Educators – the program also includes a presentation by Christopher Blakeslee, DPM, a podiatrist at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus. Sessions are held at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. A doctor’s prescription is required. Registration is required by calling 1-888-724-7123.

Self-Defense for Men & Women of All Ages
Thursday, December 10 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Don’t be a target. This ongoing program is for men and women of all ages who want to learn to protect themselves from personal assaults, street attacks and abductions. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to use leverage and balance to stay safe. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Caregivers Support Group
Tuesdays, December 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from noon to 2 p.m.

AND Wednesdays, December 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.
This ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County. It is sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Bereavement Support
Tuesdays, December 8 and 22 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Learn what to expect in the grieving process as well as how to deal with your expectations and the expectations of others in this group, sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group
Wednesdays, December 2, 9, 16, 26 and 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this free ongoing support group helps participants learn and share with others facing the unique challenges of being a “grandfamily.” Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at The Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood.
