COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION
Gentle Yoga
Mondays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 &30 at 5 p.m.

The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Cancer Support Community will offer gentle yoga classes for men and women of all ages who are affected by cancer. Appropriate for beginners as well as seasoned practitioners, gentle yoga classes will help participants learn how to increase flexibility, range of motion, energy and relaxation. Classes will take place at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Registration is recommended by calling 732-923-6090. Medical clearance is required for those currently undergoing active cancer treatment.

Relaxation and Guided Imagery
Mondays, March 2, 9, 16, 23 &30 at 6 p.m.

Relaxation and Guided Imagery provides attendees with ways to balance your energy and increase your self-care techniques as well as teaches how to focus and relax your mind and body. Offered to those affected by cancer by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Cancer Support Community, these classes take place at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Registration is recommended by calling 732-923-6090. Medical clearance is required for those currently undergoing active cancer treatment.

Glucose Screenings at the Center for Healthy Living
Tuesday, March 3 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.

Do you have diabetes? The disease affects 29.1 million people – and 8.1 million are unaware they have diabetes. Learn your risk by joining the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for free glucose screenings by a registered nurse who is a Certified Diabetes Educator. Fasting is not required, but please do not eat at least two hours before your test. Screenings are offered at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Sponsored by the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Registration is required by calling 1.888.724.7123.

Self-Defense for Men & Women of All Ages
Thursdays, March 12 & 26 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Don’t be a target. This ongoing program is for men and women of all ages who want to learn to protect themselves from personal assaults, street attacks and abductions. A black-belt instructor teaches participants to use leverage and balance to stay safe. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Self-Defense for Older Adults
Tuesdays, March 10 & 24 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.

Learn to protect yourself from future falls through exercise, balance and strength training. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to ward-off assaults and attacks using leverage. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Classic and Gentle Yoga for All Ages
Fridays, March 6, 13, 20 & 27
Classic: from 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Gentle: from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.

Men and women of all ages can enjoy the benefits of increased flexibility, range of motion, energy and relaxation by participating in Friday morning classic or gentle yoga. Gentle enough for beginners and seasoned practitioners, classic yoga includes the sun salutation warrior pose and shoulder stand, and gentle yoga includes the full range of basic yoga stretches and positions. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, the classes are held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Cost is $5 per class, and space is limited. Coffee & A Craft
Monday, March 23 from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

Come and spend a fun-filled afternoon crafting, chatting and enjoying a cup of hot coffee or tea! Each month will feature a different craft to take home. All supplies will be provided for this event offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Cancer Support Community. Ask the Oncology Nurse
Monday, March 30 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This event provides an opportunity for attendees to have their questions and concerns addressed by an experienced oncology nurse facilitator. Pre-registration is not required and drop-ins are welcome. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Cancer Support Community, Ask the Oncology Nurse will take place at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Caregivers Support Group
Tuesdays, March 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31 from noon to 2 p.m.

AND Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.
This ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County. It is sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group
Wednesdays, March 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this free ongoing support group helps participants learn and share with others facing the unique challenges of being a “grandfamily.” Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. All Cancers Support Group

This free, professionally run support group provides a safe place for individuals dealing with any type of cancer. Diabetes Support Group
Thursday, March 26 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Living with diabetes can be challenging, but we can help. Join the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus for a free support group to learn how to manage your blood glucose and continue enjoying the foods you love. Share with others the challenges and victories of daily glucose management. This free group is supported by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and partially funded by the Ocean County Office of Senior Services and will be held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood.
