The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus Presents December Senior Community Programs

Age-Related Hearing Loss
Monday, December 7 at 2 p.m.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, among adults aged 70 and older with hearing loss who could benefit from hearing aids, fewer than one in three has ever used them. Join The Center for Healthy Aging and the Department of Audiology at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus to learn about age-related hearing loss. Participants will enjoy light refreshments while Sue Ellen Boyer, MD, FAA, a clinical audiologist at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, discusses age-related hearing loss and shares facts about hearing aids. Dr. Boyer will also explore the common signs of hearing loss and tips for prevention. Following her presentation, participants will have the opportunity to take a Hearing Health Quiz at no cost. This program will take place at the Ocean County Library’s Manchester Branch located at 21 Colonial Drive in Manchester. Registration is required by calling 732-657-7600.

The Health Benefits of Tai Chi: A Lunch and Learn
Monday, December 14 at 11:30 a.m.

In a mission to promote health and wellness in the local senior community, The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus will host a Lunch and Learn for the public to learn about their Tai Chi program. Instructor Kit Lau, who has been teaching Tai Chi for more than 10 years, will lead the program and discuss the health benefits of Tai Chi. Classes will be held every Thursday beginning January 7 through February 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. Under Kit Lau’s expert direction, Better Health members will learn the fine art of Tai Chi moves from both standing and sitting positions. All luncheon participants will have the opportunity to join the Better Health group to participate in Tai Chi classes. This program takes place at The Center for Healthy Aging located at 500 River Avenue, Suite 200 in Lakewood. Registration is required by calling the Barnabas Health LINK at 1888-724-7123.
