NAALP Latino Festival
Saturday, October 1 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Third Annual Garden State Latino Cultural Festival will feature music, folkloric dance performances, arts and crafts exhibitors, vendors, games for kids, ethnic foods and much more. Seasonal Affective Disorder
Thursday, October 6 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Have you ever felt as though you had a case of the winter blues? The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus presents “S.A.D”, a discussion on seasonal affective disorder. As the days become shorter, join us to explore the causes, symptoms and treatment of seasonal depression. Refreshments will be provided. Five Wishes
Friday, October 7 from 2 to 3 p.m.
There are many things in life that are out of our hands, so it is important to take control of the things you can. The Five Wishes document gives you a way to control something very important - how you are treated if you get seriously ill. The document is an easy-to-complete form that lets you say exactly what you want. Once it is filled out and properly signed it is valid under the laws of most states. Learn more about this valuable document by joining Claire Verruni, RN, expert in palliative and hospice care at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, for this important discussion. All Levels Yoga
Fridays, October 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Better Health Members Only Event. Yoga is great for all body types and levels of fitness. Led by Nicole Franchino, RYT, students will develop body awareness, posture alignment, and core strength in basic poses. New and experienced students are welcome and will be encouraged to work at their individual ability and comfort level. Chair Yoga
Fridays, October 7, 14, 21, and 28 from 2: to 3:00 pm

Join the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to “get fit while you sit” as they present Chair Yoga, an exercise class for seniors. Relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, increase flexibility and circulation and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and well-being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Each session costs $5.

Self Defense for Men & Women of All Ages
Thursdays, October 13 & 27 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Don’t be a target! This ongoing program is for men and women of all ages who want to learn to protect themselves from personal assaults, street attacks and abductions. A black-belt instructor will teach participants to use leverage and balance to stay safe. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. Drive Defensively One Day Class
Monday, October 17 from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m.

The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus presents Drive Defensively, a one session workshop offered by the Ocean County Department of Safety. This National Safety Council refresher course is perfect for drivers of all ages who need to sharpen their driving skills. Completing this approved workshop will eliminate two points from your driving record. This class will be held at the Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. The cost for the Basic Defensive Driving Course is $8 (make check or money order payable to Ocean County) and an additional $10 (payable by money order only to the National Safety Council). Self-Defense for Older Adults
Tuesday, October 25 from 10 to 11 a.m.

Learn to protect yourself from future falls through exercise, balance and strength training. At Self-Defense for Older Adults, a black-belt instructor will teach participants to ward-off assaults and attacks using leverage. Lunch & Learn: Debunking the Myths of Breast Cancer
Wednesday, October 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Better Health Members Only Event. Breast cancer is a disease that all women should be aware of and take seriously. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, this interactive presentation led by Manpreet Kohli, M.D., will allow attendees to participate in a discussion and explore the myths and facts of breast care. Immediately following the presentation, a separate mammogram event with giveaways and other fun surprises will be held for women who are due for their annual screening mammogram. This event will be held on the patio at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 600 River Avenue, Lakewood, with mammograms held in the Jacqueline Wilentz Breast Center. Flavors of the Jersey Shore Food & Wine Tasting
