COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION
Appreciation Breakfast at Eagles Ridge Golf Club
Thursday, December 1 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Better Health Members Only Event. Come celebrate a year of healthy living! Join us for a delicious breakfast, seasonal entertainment and time spent with old and new friends. Doors will open at 9 a.m. for a mini health fair prior to the breakfast. The breakfast will take place at Eagles Ridge Golf Club located at 2 Augusta Blvd, Lakewood. Self-Defense for Older Adults – New Day and Time!
Thursday, December 1 & 15 from 3 to 4 p.m.

Learn to protect yourself from future falls through exercise, balance and strength training. At Self-Defense for Older Adults, a black-belt instructor will teach participants to ward-off assaults and attacks using leverage. Offered by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, this class is held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. The cost is $15 for five one-hour classes. All Levels Yoga
Fridays, December 2, 9, 16, 23 &30 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Better Health Members Only Event. Yoga is great for all body types and levels of fitness. Led by Nicole Franchino, RYT, students will develop body awareness, posture alignment, and core strength in basic poses. New and experienced students are welcome and will be encouraged to work at their individual ability and comfort level. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. The cost for five one-hour classes is $30. Chair Yoga
Fridays, December 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.

Join the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to “get fit while you sit” as they present Chair Yoga, an exercise class for seniors. Relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, increase flexibility and circulation and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and well-being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. Each session costs $5.

Seasonal Affective Disorder
Monday, December 5 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Have you ever felt as though you had a case of the winter blues? The Center for Healthy Aging at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus presents “S.A.D”, a discussion on seasonal affective disorder. As the days become shorter, join us to explore the causes, symptoms and treatment of seasonal depression. Refreshments will be provided. Program takes place at the Ocean County Library, Manchester Branch, located at 21 Colonial Drive, Manchester. The program is free and registration is required by calling: 732.657.7600.

Healthy Holiday Eating
Thursday, December 8 from 12:30 to 2:00 pm

Better Health Members only event. Staying healthy can be difficult during the holidays because of special gatherings with family, friends and food! Join Lauren Dorman, MS, Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, as she discusses strategies for healthier holiday meal preparation as well as healthier eating strategies for those holiday get-togethers. Create a make-and-take holiday snack mix while learning the secrets to enjoying a guilt-free holiday season, and some healthy holiday recipes. Open Health Screenings
Wednesday, December 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Take charge of your health by keeping up with your health screenings. It is important for people to monitor their health and know their screening numbers. Come out and have your glucose, blood pressure, bone density, and balance tested. This program will take place at the County Connection at the Ocean County Mall, located at 1201 Hooper Ave, Toms River. This program is free. For more information, please call 732.597.6057.

Diabetes Self-Management Education
Thursdays, December 15, 22, 29 & January 5 from 10 a.m. to Noon

Learn how to manage your diabetes by attending this four-session diabetes education program focusing on diet, nutrition, glucose monitoring, medications, meal plans, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications, dining out and benefits of exercise. This program is taught by a registered nurse and a registered dietician/certified diabetes educator. This education program takes place at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. Wednesdays, December 7, 14, 21 & 28 from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m.

Sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, this ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County.
