COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION

Safety and Sundaes: Keeping your Grandkids Safe and Happy while in your Care Monday, August 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Learn about current trends in child safety in the home, outdoors and on the road at this interactive program. Bring your grandkids for safety games, prizes and ice cream sundaes. The event is presented by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Safe Kids Monmouth/Ocean Counties, and will be held at the Center for Healthy Living, located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. National Night Out Against Crime
Tuesday, August 2 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm

National Night Out Against Crime is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, better places to live. Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus & Safe Kids Monmouth/Ocean County will participate in the event with interactive safety games and prizes. This event will take place at Pine Park, 500 Country Club Drive, Lakewood. This is a free event.

Diabetes Self-Management Education
Thursdays, August 4, 11, 18 & 25 from 10:00 am - noon

Fee based. Learn how to manage your diabetes by attending this four-session diabetes education program focusing on diet, nutrition, glucose monitoring, medications, meal plans, prevention and treatment of diabetes complications, dining out and benefits of exercise.

This education program takes place at the Center for Healthy Living, 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. Register by calling 732.886.4731.

All Levels Yoga
Friday, August 5 from 1:00 – 2:00 pm
Better Health Members Only Event. Yoga is great for all body types and levels of fitness. Led by Nicole Franchino, RYT, students will develop body awareness, posture alignment, and core strength in basic poses. New and experienced students are welcome and will be encouraged to work at their individual ability and comfort level. Chair Yoga
Fridays, August 5, 12, 19 & 26 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm
Join the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus on Fridays to “get fit while you sit” as they present Chair Yoga, an exercise class for seniors. Relax your mind and body from a seated position, without the worry of getting up and down on the floor. Learn how to improve muscle tone, increase flexibility and circulation and alleviate stiff joints, all while increasing your overall health and well-being. This program will be held at the Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus located at 198 Prospect Street in Lakewood. Each session costs $5.

It Can Wait
Monday, August 8 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Free. Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, Safe Kids NJ – Monmouth/Ocean Chapter and Pier Village are partnering with AT&T on their “It Can Wait” texting and driving campaign to warn against distracted driving through demonstrations with a car simulator. The simulator is a virtual reality driving experience that warns against the dangers of distracted driving. The Monmouth/Ocean Chapter of Safe Kids will be providing safety information with games and prizes. The event will take place at the Festival Plaza-Pier Village in Long Branch. In case of severe weather, the event will take place in the Town Square in front of Macy’s at the Monmouth Mall, Route 35 and 36, Eatontown.

Defensive Driving One Day Class
Monday, August 15 from 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
The Center for Healthy Living at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus presents Drive Defensively a one session workshop offered by the Ocean County Department of Safety. This National Safety Council refresher course is perfect for drivers of all ages who need to sharpen their driving skills. Completing this approved workshop will eliminate two points form you NJ State Driver’s record. This class will be held at the Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. The cost for the Basic Defensive Driving Course is $8.00 (make check or money order payable to County of Ocean) and an additional $10.00 (payable by money order only to the National Safety Council). Sponsored by Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and the Ocean County Office of Senior Services, this ongoing weekly support group is open to anyone who is caring for a person age 60 or older living in Ocean County. Facilitated by Kathleen Holahan, MSW, LCSW, this group is held at the Center for Healthy Living located at 198 Prospect Street, Lakewood. Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group
